I’m also thinking more about the format of these little webcomics. The vertical/stacked layout seems to work well for posting on a blog, but it requires scrolling. This robot comic was drawn as a traditional horizontal comic strip. (click here to see the original format). And I’m curious... about how many of my readers are webcomic aficionados and, if so, what are your favorites?

Very nice! I kind of like the scrolling because of the reveal (I'm notorius for scanning ahead) but most of the panel comics I read are not stacked.
That's what I was hoping for. I remember reading somewhere, though, that people didn't like having to scroll to read comics. I think side scrolling was more of an issue than up and down scrolling though.
My goodness. Where you spying on me this morning? Because that was an exact representation of me.
For your blog, the vertical format works! I read a fair amount of webcomics (any where from 10-15 full page to standard strip), plus my own and most can not pull off the vertical style. One that you might look at is Gronk ( www.gronkcomic.com ) for another idea when it comes to format. But the nice thing about webcomics are that you can do them how ever you would like.
Keep it up Ben!
Ooh, thanks for the link, Andy. And for the vote of confidence for vertical. It's weird because the vertical seems to work best for this blog, but I'm always intending to collect them into (horizontal) books at the end of a year. Ah well.
I like scrolling and looking at one panel at a time. It works esp. well for a comic without words, because without something to read I would tend to look at the whole horizontal panel at once, which kind of ruins the story, "the reveal" as someone else said.
In a book format, though, I think I would prefer the horizontal format...I guess I just read differently on a screen...
