Convergence

There's a really interesting convergence of pipes in our bathroom. It's like having a maze in there. You can follow different pipes to see where they go!

"This one goes to the bathtub!"

"Oh, ha ha! This little one leads to the sink!"

Right. Here's another bit from my small sketchbook, sort of kind of loosely based on a portrait by Marie Goth:

(Addendum: another great thing about the apartment here is the cast iron bathtub. I noticed this morning that the hot and cold taps on the bathtub are designed, consciously or unconsciously, so that you can easily work them with your feet. Such luxury!)

The Bird

Happy Thanksgiving!

This picture is one of my very first freelance projects. Sometimes I think about the young man who drew this turkey. All freshfaced and excited to be taking on "freelance work." You can tell how excited I was because of all the details in the feathers.

Originally there was even text that said "Turkey Day Deals!" (I cropped out on that action).

Turkey Day Deals, indeed.

Z is for...

What is Z for? Any guesses?

Now that we're more or less moved in, I'm frantically trying to finish these alphabet pictures. I was on a pretty good role today and it feels good to get back to drawing again. So...here' a random sketch:

Moving Tips...

Yes, we've moved! Once again the Hatke's are living in Lafayette, Indiana. For the time being we are living in the small appartment where Angelica was born. It's a cozy little place that reminds me a little bit of Michael Hague's illustrations for The Wind in the Willows. (Hague's website is here, and it has some great art, but beware the complicated flash interface). Some of you may remember the place well, but here's a picture to jog your memories:

Oh, and here's a moving tip for anyone thinking of going through the insanity of packing your worldly things into brown boxes. ALWAYS CLEARLY LABEL THE BOX WITH THE COFFEE POT. Better yet, just drive with the thing on your lap.

More updates (and pictures!) from me soon -as I continue to set up my studio.

Moving Right Along

Here's a peek at the cover for Gilber Magazine's Christmas issue:

Actually, this is also posted over at SmallPax.

More soon...
